In 2021, Theater Babel Rotterdam had the opportunity to give 6 new theater makers the chance to gain experience in inclusive theater. These theater makers were coached by writer/dramaturg Erik Ward Geerlings and director/manager Paul Röttger.
In February, circus artist Carina Klingsell made the performance Moving Portraits, with the support of Fonds Podiumkunsten.
In May, we presented two new performances by theater maker Merel Mathijssen and choreographer Rohiet Tjon Poen Gie via livestream. You can watch the recording of this livestream here.
In June, we closed off the season with productions by Otto(line) Calmeijer Meijburg, Saskia Meulendijks and Maria Sartzetaki. Also, Moving Portraits by Carina Klingsell was repeated. These shows were presented in front of a live audience and were broadcast via livestream as well.
Performance dates:
Saturday 12, 19 and 26 June
2:00pm
Theater Babel Rotterdam

The program was as follows:

Otto(line) Calmeijer Meijburg
How do you find your way back after a year of isolation? An enchanting, poetic concert, where sounds and bodies try to become one from a distance.
moving portraits
Carina Klingsell
Dance performance in which two performers from Babel and a circus artist engage in a movement dialogue, starting from each own’s individuality, their unique features.
insideout
Saskia Meulendijks
Can you see on the outside who someone really is on the inside? This question is investigated by actors of Babel and students of the MBO Theaterschool during an intensive collaboration.
engine burn slow
Maria Sartzetaki
In ENGINE BURN SLOW the performers let their imagination manifest through physicality. Treated as a vessel, the body shrinks and expands, resists and gives in. ENGINE BURN SLOW is a series of projections of tangible and intangible spaces.
*All the movement material was created in collaboration with the performers. The music is by Robin Becker.
